Notes from Venice
A Guide to Venice in the Fall (and Spring!)
Just catching up on lots of things that happened this fall. An incredible trip to Venice was one of them! I know there are so many guides about Venice and everyone has their own favorites there, so I thought I would make mine extremely short. Just one of each within the Flavor, Discovery, Wellness guide. Hope you enjoy my suggestions in time for your next trip. Venice in the spring is always a great idea!
Flavor:
The best food I had on my short trip to Venice was from nowhere I’d ever heard of before, and definitely opposite of what one would refer to as a tourist trap. A pretty casual somewhat concealed restaurant close to Peggy G’s museum. The food was simple but also some of the best food I had this year. Whether it was mozzarella bufala (isn’t it good anywhere in Italy you will ask??- no it was better there!), zucchini flowers or an insane pasta dish wish speck, I’m still dreaming about this meal 3 months later even though I will politely note that the entire trip was marked by some of the most hyped restaurants in the vicinity…for perspective’s sake.
Discovery:
Ok, so I’ve never been to Peggy Guggenheim’s before. For all of you who have, I know that’s blasphemy for someone who’s been to Venice more than a few times. But voila. Never made it until this trip. And OMG. Carved in my consciousness for the rest of my existence. Should be the first stop for any art affectionado.
Another discovery was the private studio of Marc Antonio Brandolini, who is the artist and the leader of the beautiful Laguna B glassware company. Being able to see inside the workings of Brandolini’s creativity was a special treat- and anyone who’s been to my home knows what all water pours through a Laguna B vessel.
Wellness:
There is lots to say about the beauty of Venice having an apt effect on one’s mental health and physical stamina. But all metaphysical effects aside, the breakfast at the Cipriani Venice (if one is lucky to experience it) is the ultimate of the dolce vita bien etre. Pictured below is the raw honey and the variety of home made jams. There is an abundance of this level for absolutely every type of breakfast food. And then you have it while looking out to the water and feel the Gods of Wellness smiling down at you.
