The SHA Report
Adventures in Longevity
Discovery:
I chose to go to SHA on a friends trusted recommendation and I am delighted to report that the place is a must visit for anyone and everyone who can. For people looking to get healthier/lose weight it is a fantastic way to get better..and those who are looking to just be on top of the game? It’s a supercharge engine. It’s a win win for all! (Kinda like Laroot…😉)
First of all it’s beautiful. Being in beauty is healing in itself. Being able to witness sunrise and sunset from the same balcony? Healing. Access to that perfect Mexican water and an empty beach? Ideal. (Mostly because the visitors of SHA are really busy with treatments and don’t have time for beach frolicking! But I made sure to take a moment for that!)
Flavor:
I’m a foodie so let’s discuss the food. I was prepared to be disappointed. A few years ago I went to Buchinger which is another brand of spa and it was so depressing and the food was so bad I escaped. (Literally faked a death of a relative to get out of there…oops). So when I got to SHA...I was prepared for diet food and sadness. I got neither!! It was amazing, range of delicious and complex flavors, and exciting composition.
Some of the notes from SHA diet to take into account:
Miso soup for breakfast. I don’t think I ever want to start a day without miso soup in the morning again. (Watch out for this development @laroot)
Fish, lots of fish. Protein and neuro-cognitive balance
No eggs- eggs are a high inflammation point. Interesting. I tend to not like to have eggs more then once a week maximum and now realize that’s a good thing.
Small light porridge for breakfast. And sea weed. Hi from Laroot’s Katé-Meshi breakfast. It’s actually perfect from SHA perspective. Always feels great to reconfirm!
Ayurverdic dinner consisting of steamed vegetables, preferably in liquid’ish format. Yep. ✔️
Wellness:
The way this wonderful place works is when you get here they take an insane amount of futuristic diagnostics where you truly start feeling like you are in a space ship, and then prescribe treatments accordingly. In my case my goal was revitalization and cognitive re-enforcement. While my agenda consisted of plenty of ‘normal stuff’ I practice in my usual life (shiatsu, acupuncture, etc. ) there were treatments that significantly stood out as some of the most innovative and interesting experiences!
Here are some:
Intermittent hypoxia- an oxygen mask that loads you up with O2 and that in turn revitalizes every aspect of you.
CGSW treatment- basically the best way I would describe it is ‘a beauty mask for your brain’ - a therapy that helps balance neurocognitive issues like stress and anxiety and helps your brain work better.
VR work out- I tend to think (WRONGLY) that I’m in good shape…this is how I found out that I’m delusional. This work out showed me that if I personally had to catch a flying bird while maintaining balance in the air and escaping balls of fire thrown at me? I couldn’t. And I don’t like it. I plan to make sure when I’m back to Sha in a year or so to catch the birds WITH ease! (Aka I’ll be taking my hour at the gym very seriously going forward).
All very interesting stuff. I’ll see you all at Sha!
Love,
Natasha
